Luiz T. Yamashita, Jr. - Managing Partner

Mr. Luiz Yamashita created TY investments in 2012 to invest in real estate and businesses. Prior to creating the company, he worked for 12 years at Bloomberg LP leading teams in the areas product development and product implementation.  He started his career with Bloomberg at its office in Sao Paulo, Brazil and subsequently spent the next six years with the company at its headquarters in New York. 

 

Also in New York, he led the collaboration strategy for Project ALS, a foundation searching for the cure for Lou Gehrig's Disease, and he led Atlassian's user group, an international technology company.

 

In Sao Paulo, Brazil, Mr. Yamashita received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Finance and graduated with honors from Fundacao Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP).  His graduation thesis, "Future Markets Operations to Hedge and Leverage Agribusiness," with two of his college colleagues, received an ABN AMRO Bank award and was published at the FAAP's library.

 

Mr. Yamashita was born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil and is married to Susan, and together they have one son.

 

Mr. Yamashita serves on the board of the Montessori School of Pawleys Island, is a member of the Preservation Society of Charleston, and is a member of Friends of Brookgreen Gardens.  His hobbies include cooking, reading about technology, and watching futebol (Brazilian soccer).

Tadashi Yamashita - Managing Partner

Mr. Yamashita graduated in Economics from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie – São Paulo – Brazil (1975) and with Master in Economics from Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (1982) – São Paulo – Brazil.  In 2005, he got his CPA. Tadashi is also a 6 sigma green belt and a certified sponsor.

 

Prior to becaming a partner with TY Investments, Mr. Yamashita worked for Cummins. In 1991 he joined as CFO for Brazil. In 1992, he became the Administrative and Finance Director, with responsibilities for Controllership, Treasury, Risk Management, Systems, Human Resources, Pensions, Indirect Purchasing and Legal. In 1996, he became the CFO for the Latin America ABO (Area Business Organization). In 2000, as the acting managing director, Tadashi led the turnaround process of Cummins Japan. In 2001, he led the deployment of the 6 sigma program in Brazil. In 2003, he was invited to implement and lead the CBS (Shared Service organization) in South America (Brazil and Argentina).  In 2004, he consolidated the implementation of CBS in Mexico and then, became the CBS Latin America Regional Director, responsible for Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. In 2005, he spent some time in Japan and helped the implementation of CBS in that country and region.  In January 2009, he became the Latin America Regional Treasury Director (Mexico, Central America and South America regions), with responsibilities for Treasury, Capital Markets, Pensions, Customer Credit Management and Mergers & Acquisitions.

 

Since 1992, Tadashi has also been the President of the Board of Directors and the Investment Committee of PrevCummins, the pension fund in Brazil and the statutory director and minority shareholder of all Cummins legal entities in Brazil. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the JV Valvoline Cummins Brasil and Komatsu Cummins Chile Limited, since 2008. In 2010, he was elected alternate director of ABRAPP (Associação Brasileira das Entidades Fechadas de Previdência Complementar), responsible for the São Paulo Estate. In 2013, he was recertified in Pensions by the Brazilian government.

 

Prior to Cummins, Tadashi worked for Union Carbide (1981 – 1991) and Grupo Villares (1972 – 1981), as the General Finance Manager, Corporate Controller and Treasury Manager. He started his professional carrier as the computer programmer (IBM/370), using the RPG and Cobol languages, at former Light S.A. in 1971.

 

Tadashi has also been professor of Corporate Finance, Corporate Treasury, Strategic Planning and Economics (MBA and graduation courses), since 1976. From 1992 to 1996, he led the Economics Department at Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie. He also was professor at FAAP and Faculdades Osvaldo Cruz. In 2003, he decided to create the own college/ MBA program - IPEC – Instituto Paulista de Educação Continuada, that did not succeed for several reasons. He also teaches  Brazilian Economics for the students of Kelley School of Administration – Indiana University (MBA program), twice a year, using  skype from Brazil.

 

Tadashi also wrote an article entitled “In the eye of the multinationals - The third wave of foreign investment in national industry” for the book Competitive Brazil - Challenges and strategies for the manufacturing industry, launched by Deloitte in May, 2012. He also writes articles for the blog of Cummins .
